Move Into Being

I am a Movement Psychotherapist, supervisor and trainer based in Valencia (Spain) and online.

Since I can remember, I have always been very attracted by movement. As a child I loved running, climbing, dancing, and rolling on the floor. As an adult this attraction became a need; a need to be in touch with my body and to express through it.

Over time, I have come to understand that our experiences and bodily movements can reveal a lot about who we are and our life experiences. This curiosity about movement has also led me to discover its healing and transformative power.

My therapeutic approach

I work from an integrative approach, blending principles from humanistic, attachment, trauma therapy and Gestalt theories.

In therapy sessions, I cultivate a safe, warm, non-judgmental and empathetic environment, to support and empower my clients in their personal exploration and inviting them to connect with their bodies at their own pace.

I blend verbal reflections with techniques that enhance bodily awareness, attention to sensations, and spontaneous movement. I also incorporate creative methods, using props, music, and art materials to facilitate self-discovery.

I work from the premise that each person is the expert of their own therapeutic journey, I adapt my approach to meet them where they are.

I see healing as a gradual journey that enables our true, deeper selves to emerge and align with how we live in the world. Rather than seeing problems and physical symptoms as barriers, I view them as unfinished processes of transformation and development. In this sense, they serve as opportunities—pathways to a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

As a requirement to my DMP practice I adhere to the ethical code of practice outlined by the Spanish Association of Dance Movement Therapy – ADMTE of which I am a member and on council since November 2023, and the Association of Dance Movement Psychotherapy UK – ADMPUK of which I have been a member since 2010.

As part of my practice as a Dance Movement Psychotherapist, I engage in regular clinical supervision to ensure the ongoing development of therapeutic goals and objectives, and to address any challenges that arise.

I also receive regular personal psychotherapy (dance movement and body psychotherapy) and maintain my own self-care routine.

I update my skills through Continuing Professional Development (CPD) each year by attending a variety of workshops, training, and specialised conferences.

I am also registered as a social worker with the Official College of Social Workers of Valencia.

What happens in a session

Within an individual or group session clients are invited to share and embody feelings and experiences both verbally and physically. Movement can help to re-connect psychological and physical aspects of emotional experiences. Clients do not need to be able to dance or be physically fit, just open to the idea of moving in any way which feels comfortable and everyone is encouraged to work within their body limitations. Where appropriate, music may be used as well as the option to use a mixture of props, natural objects or art materials to support the creative movement exploration.

 Individual sessions run for 60 minutes and they are structured as follows:

 Beginning: verbal check in and attention to body sensations or movement;

 Middle: working creatively in movement and words on any emotional themes which may arise;

 End: verbal check out making sense of what happened in movement;

With focus on working with being present in the moment, I encourage creative and spontaneous movement to explore any themes and emotions which may emerge in a session. Allowing creative self-expression in a non-judgmental environment encourages imagination and memory to be stimulated by giving meaning to movement through symbols, metaphor, and images.

 A group will last for a minimum of an hour and a half and consist of a beginning, middle and end (as above).

 All groups, although unique, are different and dependent on participants. The group process and development is an important aspect ensuring confidentiality as well as being open to sharing and moving with others. The number of people per group is 6-8 or sometimes more plus any carers if needed, depending on client requirement.

In my sessions, both individual and group, body-related concerns are addressed with sensitivity and respect, valuing all shapes, sizes, abilities, and identities and ethnic backgrounds.

What is Dance Movement Psychotherapy?

Dance Movement Psychotherapy (DMP) is a therapeutic approach that fosters self-expression, creativity, and communication through bodily movement. In the supportive environment of therapy, individuals use both movement and spoken word to explore and process their emotions, whether positive or negative, and uncover unacknowledged feelings. By encouraging spontaneous and creative expression, often using symbolic gestures, DMP promotes the integration of mind and body, facilitating healing.

This approach engages participants in a therapeutic and artistic journey where they can discover their innate ability to symbolise, organise, and integrate significant life experiences. DMP aims to harmonise physical, emotional, cognitive, and social dimensions within each person, promoting holistic well-being.
